Factors Influencing Quality of Life of Patients with Osteoarthritis in Rural Area
Son Jung-Tae

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identity the relationship among pain, exercise pattern, and quality of life (QOL) of patients with osteoarhritis who reside in rural area. This study also determine the predictors of QOL of patients. A total of 250 OA patients (Mean age 68.9¡¾10.3 years, 28% male and 82% female) participated in the study. Data were collected by direct interview and questionnaires. The pain and QOL score were 65.04¡¾22.90 by numeric scale with maximum score of 100 and 3.31¡¾0.42 with modified Ro`s scale of maximum score of 5 respectively. Patients performing regular exercise had significantly higher QOL score (3.49¡¾0.48) than the patients with no exercise (3.31¡¾0.42). In linear regression analysis, age (B=-1.645, SE=0.777, p=.035), numbers of sites with pain (B=-1.192, SE=0.532, p=.026), disability in activities of daily living (B=0.280, SE=0.139, p=0.045), and regular exercise (B=2.173, SE=0.648, p=.001) were all associated with QOL score (R2=0.102). In conclusion, regular exercise was the most important predictor of QOL. Therefore, easier exercise program, specified for OA patients should be developed and implemented.
